Cooling Improves Cosmic Microwave Background Map-making when Low-frequency Noise is Large

چکیده

In the context of Cosmic Microwave Background data analysis, we study solution to equation that transforms scanning into a map. As originally suggested in "messenger" methods for solving linear systems, split noise covariance uniform and non-uniform parts adjust their relative weights during iterative solution. With simulations, mock instrumental with different properties, find this "cooling" or perturbative approach is particularly effective when there significant low-frequency timestream. such cases, conjugate gradient algorithm applied modified system converges faster higher fidelity than standard approach. We give an analytic estimate parameter controls how gradually should change course

Iterative map-making methods for Cosmic Microwave Background data analysis

The map-making process of Cosmic Microwave Background data involves linear inversion problems which cannot be performed by a brute force approach for the large timelines of most modern experiments. We present optimal iterative map-making methods, both COBE and Wiener, and apply these methods on simulated data. They produce very well restored maps, by removing nearly completely the correlated no...

Map-making methods for Cosmic Microwave Background experiments

The map-making step of Cosmic Microwave Background data analysis involves linear inversion problems which cannot be performed by a brute force approach for the large timelines of today. We present in this article optimal vector-only map-making methods, which are an iterative COBE method, a Wiener direct filter and a Wiener iterative method. We apply these methods on diverse simulated data, and ...

Accelerating the cosmic microwave background map-making procedure through preconditioning

Estimation of the sky signal from sequences of time ordered data is one of the key steps in cosmic microwave background (CMB) data analysis, commonly referred to as the map-making problem. Some of the most popular and general methods proposed for this problem involve solving generalised least-squares (GLS) equations with non-diagonal noise weights given by a block-diagonal matrix with Toeplitz ...

Is the low-l microwave background cosmic?

The large-angle (low-l) correlations of the cosmic microwave background exhibit several statistically significant anomalies compared to the standard inflationary cosmology. We show that the quadrupole plane and the three octopole planes are far more aligned than previously thought (99.9% C.L.). Three of these planes are orthogonal to the ecliptic at 99.1% C.L., and the normals to these planes a...
